“That scary feeling is God getting ready to do something big!”

“Trials are intended to make us think, to wean us from the world, to send us to the Bible, to drive us to our knees.” -J.C. Ryle

Looking back at 2020, it seemed as though we were in a long episode of the “Twilight Zone”. And since we are being real here, there were many days we felt totally defeated. Not so much for ourselves, but for the faces of the children we knew were going hungry every night. The government lockdown prevented us from leaving our street, with the threat of being arrested. Eventually our love for the children outweighed our fear. Sometimes this meant throwing food out the window of our vehicle and driving away. As the lockdown began to loosen, the embassy contacted us, and gave us two weeks to leave. So, we flew back to the states.

When we got back to the U.S., we took advantage of our time and spent lots of it with family and with some friends who’ve become like family. We traveled over 7,000 miles to see some of you–from Texas to Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and back to Corpus Christi, Texas! We will always treasure our time with all of you. Our family is used to serving others in need. But it is always outside of our comfort to have others give and serve us so sacrificially, as you all did. But we received it humbly, knowing we would need to be filled-up to pour back out later to those that need it most.

Now it’s 2021. We are not going to allow a virus or anything else prevent us from following the plans God has created us for! “He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of sound mind.” -2 Timothy 1:7

We have been back in Mombasa Kenya for almost 3 weeks now. In past years we described our ministry as having ADHD–we were all over the place, doing whatever the Spirit lead us to do that week or that day. It was very fruitful, and we thank God for the ministries He has entrusted us with. But God is doing something new! We will continue the ministries we have always done, and, for those of you joining us for the first time, this includes baby care packages, feeding programs, parenting and marriage classes, discipleship, school sponsorships, sharing the gospel through books, medical help, empowering addicts, starting up of small businesses, and God allows the list to go on and on. All these different ministries have one purpose–to share Jesus.

We have a vision and are praying about starting a community center–a place where we can do all the ministries God has entrusted us with, in one location. It will be a haven, over-flowing with education and the love of Jesus! Our hope is to give opportunities to overcome adversity through education and most importantly the love of Christ. For example, mothers can come to the center and earn baby care packages by going through parenting classes, children can earn books through tutoring, young girls can earn a care package specific to girls after going through conferences teaching them about their identity in Christ. We have a God-sized vision that, when we think about it, can be scary. But, we have come to know, “That scary feeling is God getting ready to do something big!”

Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above what we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to him be the glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

Thank you for being part of our journey. All extra donations we receive will be set aside for the community center.
