If you look back at our last post on our website (gosendjoin.us), you will see a post describing our first month in Kenya, “DEFEATED”. You will see that our first month was quite discouraging. It was a hard post to write but we believed we needed to be real and honest about what was happening. Even through that difficult time there was a supernatural awareness that God was preparing us for something. Through these trials He was growing our faith. Since our last letter we have seen Gods hand directing us to people and places. We are beginning to see His hand. We are all finding our way.
One of the ministries God has brought us to is the Feeding Center. Every Saturday over 500 orphans come for a bowl of beans and maize (githeri) and each family unit gets a small bag of maize to insure they will have something to eat during the week. Wayne and I have begun the 500 Club. This is essentially the equivelant of having a VBS every week but for 500. If you know my husband Wayne, you know he likes to have everything planned out perfectly and well organized. So lets just say this is way out of his comfort zone and mine. We are a little overwhelmed but are trusting God to do something only He can do.
Ministry looks quite different in Mombasa. Out of the 500 children 300 plus are Muslim. You cannot ask them to give their lives to Jesus unless you are willing to save them from their circumstance…. which for them saying yes to Jesus could cause them to be beat, banished, or even killed. Our job will be to plant seeds (LOVE) and God will in his time make it grow. We show God’s love in simple things like smiling and handing food to them or by sitting on the dirt floor with them as they eat there bowl of food. Our hearts are full when we are the hands and feet of Jesus to these little ones. These kids below are not allowed in the building by their parents because they are muslim but they are listening.
1st. Corinthians 3:6-9 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.
We want to thank those who have faithfully given to this beautiful thing God is doing here in Mombasa Kenya. We pray that you will be blessed in return as you see the lives that are changing through your sacrifice. There is still so much we want to do and if you have not given yet and would be blessed by joining us then please see donation information below.
