Twenty-five years ago, when Wayne and I surrendered our lives to loving Jesus, we were a mess! Wayne, who had been taken from his home when he was ten years old because of neglect and abuse, and later adopted at 13, had brought all that baggage into our relationship. And I brought my own brokenness as well. We were dysfunctional times two. If our peers were to choose a couple that was least likely to be used by God, we would have been at the top of the list.

But we are so thankful that God takes broken things and makes them new! All those terrible things we experienced in our past, God used for good! He was preparing us for an incredibly special work.

Ephesians 2:8-10 states, “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves. It is a gift from God; not because of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, so that we would walk in Him.”

Ever since stepping on the red African soil in 2011, we have realized that God was not only going to use us to bring hope and redemption to many, but He was also bringing healing to us.

God is still unveiling His plans for us in Mombasa, Kenya. It may not always be easy, but it is always good.

Here are a few things about us.

Meeting the needs of the neediest here in Kenya is really just a huge opportunity to tell them about Jesus. It fires us up knowing that hundreds of seeds, that we have been a part of planting, will grow into salvation one day.

If we were not making a huge impact, we would go home. There is so much we give up to be here, but when we see someone go from brokenness to wholeness, it no longer feels like a sacrifice. It feels like a blessing that God has allowed us to be a part of!

Our family, along with many of our supporters, have saved for their whole lives and have now decided to invest into souls.

We are not sure what God has planned for our ministries in the future, but we want His will more than our own.

We can really use your prayers. There is a darkness here that you can actually feel and hear and see. But we know light shines brighter in dark places! There are times we face battles that we cannot speak of or share with others, but knowing we have people interceding on our behalf means a lot to us!

One of the most difficult things about being on the mission field is the sacrificing of time with our family back home. We have four beautiful daughters. Our youngest, who is eleven, lives with us and has her own ministries here in Kenya. The other three live in the states. One is preparing to go on the mission field to minister to unreached people groups. And our other two are living in South Texas, along with our grandson and granddaughter.

We could not do this it without you! “Thank you!”, to everyone who supports us. We know how hard you have worked and sacrificed to be able to give to this calling, and we are careful with how we use God’s finances!

Blessings!
Wayne, Tammy, and Haven
