Andrus Family Update November 2018
This month has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs. There has been the highs of seeing the spiritual fruit from the seeds we are planting grow and bloom. Then there has been the lows of seeing so much suffering.
The Fruit.
Baby Ministry
This week one of the leaders from the village said that because of our baby ministry we are building bridges between the Muslim and Christian people. It has been such a blessing to take these care packages of sugar, oil, cloth diapers, and soap to these new moms and their babies. If they allow us, we pray a blessing over them and their families. When we first arrive the moms are uncomfortable by our presence but by the end of our visit they are so thankful and full of smiles.
Bible Study
We have opened up our home to bible study and dinner every Sunday night. One of the young men who attends was sharing how this study has encouraged him to share his faith. He gave a testimony about how he had free time and went to a park and began sharing the gospel. He shared with 5 people. 2 of the 5 gave their lives to Jesus and one of the men who was Muslim said he would consider Jesus.
500 Club
We are building many relationships with the children at the 500 club/feeding center. We continue to sew seeds of Gods word and His love. This ministry is something we take very seriously knowing that we are sharing Jesus with 500 little souls. There is a lot happening here but because we are dealing with the Islamic faith and children we are limited in what we can say.
Our walk
There is not a lot of distractions here.
Last week Wayne said “I feel like God has taught me more in the past 4 months than I learned in 10 years as a Christian.”
The lows of seeing so much suffering.
This week has been a tough week for us. We hate to have a post that’s a downer, but these are the facts.
While doing some small first aid at the feeding center we met a little girl with a large oozing sore behind her ear. Our friend made a visit to her home, a small mud hut in the village. Her mom told us how she cant worry about her medial problems because she has to take care of her 5 children and her paralyzed husband by selling fruit. Her job is to make sure her family gets one meal a day. She was taken to the Dr recently who said he believed it to be a tumor because she has been on medication for a year on and off and it never heals and sometimes causes her whole face to swell.
M
We met a young girl this week without a single penny to her name. She was tricked by her remaining family member to come to Mombasa for a job. When she arrived she was dropped at an older mans house and left to be his wife. When she refused she was left with nowhere to go. She is asking us for help.
Mob Justice
This week we witnessed a crowd of people kill 2 robbers in front of our compound. We could do nothing without risking our own lives. Wayne just came inside and began to sing praise music to keep Haven from hearing. Not sure how to walk down our street knowing the horrible thing that happened in this place.
Sanctuary
The word God has shown us over and over has been the word sanctuary. Before we left to come to Kenya, Wayne asked me, if we had a free pass to do anything we wanted to in Kenya and money was no object what would it be…again I had a vision of a sanctuary . I imagined a beautiful place, a sanctuary, a place of healing for the most broken. This week we were asked to pray about opening a brand new rescue center that would be for abused girls. We went to visit it and it wasn’t the kind of place I had in my vision but we are both open to whatever God has. We must be so close to Jesus that when He says something we are sure its Him and not our own ideas.
Walking Sanctuaries
We need to be walking sanctuaries. One of our challenges has always been who do we help. We cannot help everyone. But to those we cannot help, how do we look at them and say we cant help you , but we will pray for you.
Following Jesus is a free gift but if you love Him it will cost you! We have counted the cost and He is worth it!
